Enoch D. Frankhouser
COLONEL, US ARMY
Enoch D. Frankhouser, 84, a retired Army Colonel who served for 30 years in the Army Signal Corps, died Tuesday, June 24, 2014 in Fairfax, VA of pulmonary fibrosis.
He spent his formative years in New Holland, Pennsylvania, the home of his paternal grandparents and was a graduate of New Holland High School class of 1948.
He joined the US Army Signal Corps from the ROTC program at the Carnegie Institute of Technology (currently Carnegie Mellon University). He served 6 ½ years overseas in Central America, Iran and Vietnam where he was commander of the 361st Signal Battalion. He served a tour as a member of the faculty at the US Military Academy. His later assignments included Director of the Defense Communications Engineering Center and final assignment as Director of Shock Physics for the Defense Nuclear Agency. His military awards included two Defense Superior Service Medals, Legion of Merit (two awards), the Bronze Star, Meritorious Service Medal, and the Army Commendation Medal.
His education included: B.S. in Physics from Carnegie Institute of Technology and an M.S. in Nuclear Engineering from University of Arizona. Enoch was also a graduate of the Army Command and General Staff College, as well as distinguished graduate of the Industrial College of the Armed Forces. Subsequent to his military retirement in 1982, he spent 24 years as a Program Manager for contracts to support the Department of Defense.
Past President of Public Members Association of the US Foreign Service.
His principal hobby was tennis.
Survivors include his wife Doris Jean (Showalter) Frankhouser, of 57 years.
