Erwin G. Martin

Erwin G. Martin, 94, formerly of Terre Hill, died Sunday, March 25, 2012, at Fairmount Homes. He was preceded in death by his wife M. Arlene (Brendle) Martin in 2008.

Born in Terre Hill, he was the son of the late Noah H. and Emma (Gehman) Martin. He was a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church He was ordained in 1953 and served at Deacon for 34 years.

He had been in Civilian Public Service in Grottoes, VA.

Erwin was a sewing machine mechanic and had worked at the former SLC Corp, Blue Ball, and the former Her Majesty sewing factory, New Holland.

He raised birds, including peacocks, quail and pheasants, and after retirement, he built small tractors and enjoyed traveling.

Surviving are his children: Thelma, married to Ronald Riley, Port Charlotte, FL, Lucille, married to Larry Groff of Denver, PA, Nevin, married to Ruth Ann (Bowman) Martin, Terre Hill, Gary, married to Jean (Lentz) Martin, East Earl, Sue, married to Michael Eby, Terre Hill, and Lauren, married to Kim (Weaver) Martin, Glenwood Springs, CO, 17 grandchildren, 32 great grandchildren, and two brothers, Marvin G., married to Patricia (Grimes) Martin, New Holland, and Lester R., married to Dorothy (Stauffer) Martin, Denver, PA.

He was preceded in death by his brothers Alvin, Leon, Chester and Paul Martin, and a sister Kathryn Horning, and two great granddaughters, Alisha and Ashley Martin.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, March 29 at 10 a.m. at Weaverland Mennonite Church, with Bishop C. Kenneth Martin, and Pastors Leon Hurst, Brian Martin and Phil Groff officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held on Wednesday, from 5:30 to 8 p.m. at Fairmount Homes Wheat Ridge Chapel. If desired, memorials may be sent to Fairmount Homes Sharing Fund, 333 Wheat Ridge Drive, Ephrata, PA 17522. Kindly omit flowers. Arrangements are with Eckenroth Home for Funerals, Terre Hill.
