Esther H. Bowman

Esther H. Bowman, 91, of Myerstown, went home to be with the Lord on Saturday, March 11, 2017 at Richland Christian Home under the care of Hospice. She was the wife of the late Bishop Aaron S. Bowman, who died in 2003.

Born in Ephrata on May 25, 1925, Esther was a daughter of the late John M. and Lena (Hurst) Horning.

She was a member of Sharon Mennonite Fellowship. Esther was a loving mother, homemaker, mentor and Sunday School teacher. She was very supportive of her husband's ministry.

Esther is survived by 5 children: Janet, wife of Kenneth Sheaffer of Lebanon; Carolyn, wife of Ernest Stauffer of Ephrata; Laverna, wife of Herbert Brubaker of Myerstown; Leane, wife of Eugene Musser of Ephrata; and Sharon, wife of David Martin of Denver; 16 grandchildren, 61 great-grandchildren and 14 great-great grandchildren.

She is also survived by 5 siblings; Laura Zimmerman, Verna Fox, Minerva Good, Lena Zimmerman (Ivan), and a brother John Horning, Jr, all of Ephrata.

Esther was preceded in death by her husband, a daughter Barbara Ann, a sister Anna Shirk, and brothers-in-law Harvey Zimmerman, Harvey Fox, Warren Good, Clarence Weaver and sister-in-law Helen Horning.

Esther's greatest gift was praying for the needs of many of the lives she touched. She also experienced great joy in telling others about Jesus.

Funeral Services will be held on Friday, March 17, 2017 at 10:00 AM at Martindale Mennonite (Brick) Church, 171 Hurst Rd, Ephrata, PA. Viewings will be held on Thursday, March 16, 2017 at Martindale Mennonite Church from 2:00-4:00 and 6:00-8:00 PM and also 9:00-10:00 AM on Friday at the church.
