Esther T. (Tyler) Sideman, 100, of New Holland, passed away on June 30, 2024 as a resident of Garden Spot Village.
Born in Hazleton, she was the daughter of the late Charles L. and Emma (Hartranft) Tyler.
She was the wife of the late Leonard Sideman, who passed away on March 9, 1993.
She was a registered nurse for 30 years, a graduate of West Penn Hospital School of Nursing. Her 30-year nursing career encompassed Public Health, Private Duty, and In-Service Education. She was a pioneer of Intensive Care Nursing. Following her retirement, she served as a volunteer with the American Red Cross.
She previously attended Ranck’s United Methodist Church and attended Garden Spot Community Church. She was a volunteer for many organizations, including the General Federation of Women’s Club, Friends of the Library and the New Holland Lions Club.
Never one to be idle, Esther had many interests. She was a born “leader”, organizing various social activities, fund raisers, and entertaining friends and neighbors. Counted cross stitch and reading were two of her favorite “quiet time” interests.
Eshter is survived by her children, James E. Bell Jr. husband of Debbie Bell and Susan B. Lyle-Casile wife of Dennis Casile, grandchildren: Angie, James, Kathleen, Jennifer and Heather and great grandchildren, Elaina, Joel, Taylor, Devon, James and Ryan.
In addition to her husband and parents, she is preceded in death by her daughter, Kathleen T. wife of the late Lester Harry, grandsons, Joshua Lyle and Michael Capone and her sister, Emma Jean Griffith.
Esther was the first resident of Garden Spot Village in New Holland. She was affectionately known by the staff as “The First Lady”.
She will be remembered by her family as a generous and caring mother and grandmother.
Services will be held privately at the convenience of the family. Interment in Mountain Grove Cemetery, Bloomsburg, PA.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be sent to Garden Spot Benevolent Fund, 433 S Kinzer Avenue, New Holland PA 17557 or to Eastern Lancaster County Library, 11 Chestnut Drive, New Holland PA 17557.
Groff High Funeral Home in New Holland is entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
