Freddie “Fred” M. Morgan, 82, of New Holland, passed away on Saturday, October 15, 2016 at Garden Spot Village. He was the loving husband of Shirley J. (Martin) Morgan, with whom he shared 54 years of marriage.
Born in Athens, TX, he was a son of the late William C. Morgan and Lelia E. (Tanner) Acevedo.
Fred was a career Marine who served during both the Korean and Vietnam Wars. During his 20 years in the military, he served in Korea, West Germany, Cuba, Okinawa, and Vietnam. Following his military service, Fred worked as a sales and management consultant, finally retiring from Manheim Auto Auction in 1999.
Fred was a member of St. Paul’s U. M. Church. In his spare time, he was an avid aviation and railroad enthusiast. A notably unaccomplished fisherman, Fred told really great fish stories. He was a former president of the Terre Hill Borough Council and was a member of the Garden Spot Lions Club, from which he received the Melvin Jones Fellow Award.
In addition to his wife, Fred is survived by four sons: Steven G. of Osprey, FL, Brian K., husband of Christie, of Purcellville, VA, Bruce M., husband of Leslie, of Lititz, PA, and Patrick of New Holland; 7 grandchildren:
Jeremy, Greg, Sarah, Ty, Brooks, Cole, and Kendall; and 3 great-grandchildren: Elizabeth, Carter, and Winston.
He was preceded in death by his parents, his brother William, and his sisters Hazel Marie and Mary.
Memorial services will be held on Thursday, October 20, 2016 at 11 AM at the Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill, PA 17581. Interment will follow in Terre Hill Cemetery after services. Visitation will be held on Thursday from 10-11 AM at the funeral home. In lieu of flowers, please consider a donation to St. Paul’s U.M.
