Frederick C. Lowery, 91, of Lancaster, formerly of New Holland, went home to be with the Lord, on Friday, February 19, 2016, at The Glen at Willow Valley.

Born in Intercourse, he was the son of Ira D. and Hazel C. (Clark) Lowery. He was married 67 years to Cora Jean (Kling) Lowery.

Fred was a 1943 graduate of Manheim Twp. High School. In 1950 he graduated from Franklin and Marshall College with a Bachelor’s degree in History and then in 1954 he graduated from Dallas Theological Seminary with a Masters in Theology.

During WWII he served in the US Army Air Corps from 1943-1945 as a radio operator on a B17 with the rank of Tech Sergeant. He was awarded four bronze stars and two bronze oak leaf clusters. Following the war, he served in the Army Reserve as a Chaplain from 1957-1978 retiring as a Lt. Colonel. He enjoyed giving back to his country in many ways following his military years.

His first pastorate, beginning in 1954, was a three-church circuit in Lebanon County. For 27 years, from 1960-1987, he pastored the New Holland Evangelical United Methodist Church. Following his retirement, he pastored the Intercourse United Methodist Church for 16 years until 2003.

Surviving in addition to his wife is a son, David K., married to Deborah (Eich) Lowery of Midlothian, TX; a daughter, Julia A. Lowery of Mechanicsburg; a daughter-in-law, Jeanie (Voreis) Lowery of New Holland; four grandchildren; six great-grandchildren; a brother, Paul D. of New Holland; and a sister-in-law, June (Fulmer) Lowery of Cincinnati, OH.

Preceding him in death is a son, Daniel F. Lowery; and a brother, Robert B. Lowery.

A memorial service will be held on Sunday, March 6 at 2:00 pm at the New Holland Evangelical United Methodist Church, 276 W. Main St., New Holland with the Reverend Jerry Crossley officiating. Private interment will be held in the adjoining cemetery. The family will receive guests following the memorial service in the church fellowship hall.

In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you honor Fred and his deceased son Dan by giving to Africa Inland Mission (AIM), Acct. #04-24-80, P.O. Box 3611, Peachtree City, GA 30269-7611 which will aid his granddaughter, a new AIM missionary.
