G. Harold Zimmerman, 88, of New Holland, died Friday, November 17, 2023, at Garden Spot Village. He was preceded in death by his wife, Irene S. (Frankhouser) Zimmerman in 2019.
Born in East Earl, he was the son of the late Christian and Mabel (Halligan) Zimmerman.
Harold had been employed by the former Victor F. Weaver Poultry for 31 years as the superintendent of the fried chicken division. He then worked for Choice Books from 1990 to 2013. For the last 10 years he had been driving for Cletus & Nancy Ressler/Jere Cassel Transport Services.
He was a member of Weaverland Anabaptist Faith Community where he served as a Sunday School Class Shepherd, usher, and Sunday School teacher.
His legacy is one of great faith and a strong sense of service. He volunteered 40 years with the Pa. Relief Sale. He spent many years with the Ephrata Community Hospital Ambulance Association as an EMT. He was a faithful volunteer with Mennonite Disaster Service and Cross Net Ministries. He was known for his Bar-B-Q Chicken fundraisers.
Surviving are three children, Cynthia married to Camille Rouvre, Akron, Nelson married to Elaine Zimmerman, Denver, Brenda married to Kevin Murphy, Ephrata, a daughter-in-law Ruth S. Zimmerman, Ephrata, 7 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.
In addition to his wife, he was preceded in death by a son, Reynold “Ren” Zimmerman and a grandson, Justin A. Murphy.
His funeral will be held on Tuesday, November 21, 2023, at 2 p.m. at Weaverland Anabaptist Faith Community, 210 Weaverland Valley Rd., East Earl with Pastors Brian Martin, Al Stoltzfus, and Leon Hurst officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. A viewing will be held on Monday from 6 to 8 p.m. at Garden Spot Village Garden Towers and at the church on Tuesday from 1 to 2 p.m. Kindly omit flowers.
