Gene Michael Cooper

Gene Michael "Mike" Cooper died on February 5, 2014, at Dallastown Nursing Center. He bravely fought the devastating effects of the brain injury he suffered in a chemical spill at his workplace in September 2003. He was 58 years old. Mike is survived by his wife, Sandy, to whom he had been married for 37 years on January 28.

Mike was the son of the late Pauline and Wayne Cooper. He is also survived by his daughter Ann,(Rancho Cucamonga, CA); son David, married to Elizabeth Nicoulin Cooper, grandson Grant,(Brooklyn, NY); and sister Cathy Huynh,(East Petersburg). He was also preceded in death by his sisters Shirley and Peggy, and brother Scott.

Mike attended Brecknock Elementary School, and after moving to Paradise, graduated from Conestoga Valley HS and Brownstown VO-Tech School in 1973. He served as an MP in the US Army 1974-1977, stationed at Fort Hood, TX and Fort Myer, VA. He graduated with a degree in business/finance from Millersville SC in 1989. Mike had completed most of his graduate degree and exams in financial planning at the time of his injury, and had been looking forward to a new career in that field. After leaving the Army, he lived in and enjoyed many years in Lancaster City.

He worked for Armstrong World Industries from 1974-2004.

Mike was a "jack of all trades", and spent time skillfully renovating houses and business properties. He loved all animals, especially cats and dogs.

Despite his illness, his sense of humor, love of his family and animals was always visible. The family is exceedingly grateful for the kindness and love shown to him by the staff at Dallastown Nursing Center.
