Gene I. Troop, 73, of 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, died Monday, September 15, 2014 at Garden Spot Village following a lengthy battle with Parkinson’s. His wife, Linda M. (Seifred) Troop, survives. They were married for 50 years on November 16, 2013.
Born in Churchtown, he was the son of Ray S. and Dorothy V. (Clark) Troop of New Holland.
During the Vietnam War, he served in the U. S. Army.
Gene worked for 42 years at Enterprise Telephone Company, now Frontier Communications, as a PBX phone system installer, retiring in September, 2002
He was a member of the Churchtown United Methodist Church, the Ephrata Elks B.P.O.E #1933, the V.F.W. Post 7362, New Holland, and the American Legion Post 662, New Holland. He was an avid golfer.
In addition to his wife and parents, he is survived by two sons: David G. married to Sherri (Browell) Troop, New Holland; John M. married to Michelle (Shimp) Troop, Lancaster; five grandchildren: Colton, Carley, Ryan, Gavin, and Owen Troop; a twin brother Gerald R. married to Jackie (McCoy) Troop, Narvon and a sister Donna married to Carl “Butch” Styer, Narvon.
Gene’s family would like to give a special thank you to the staff in Fallcrest at Garden Spot Village for their loving care for Gene.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, September 19, 2014 at 2 p.m. at Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland with Chaplain Chester Yoder officiating. Friends will be received at the chapel on Friday from 1 to 2 p.m. Interment with military honors in the United Methodist Cemetery of Churchtown will be held on Friday, September 19 at 12 Noon.
