George Paul Althouse

George P. Althouse, 81, of Leola, passed away on Friday, April 26, 2024 at Lancaster General Hospital following a two week illness.

He was married 61 years to Thea Arlene Means Althouse. Born in Gap, he was the son of the late Ross A. and Anna Chambers Althouse.

George retired from CNH after 30 plus years of employment. In retirement he had owned and operated the Old Candle Shed in Leola, for many years. He enjoyed yard work, hunting, fishing, building floats for the baby parade and helping family members wherever he could. He had attended Cedar Grove Presbyterian Church. He spent many hours contributing his time as President of the Doug Althouse Memorial Foundation.

Surviving besides his wife is a daughter, Dana L. Althouse-Yoder of Leola; a granddaughter, Oliva Payton Yoder of Leola; and three sisters, Caroline Gordon of FL, Thelma Hess of Intercourse, and Judy wife of Jim Hulsey of TX. He was preceded in death by a son, Doug Althouse, a sister Doris Brown and by a brother Ross Althouse, Jr.

A Viewing will be held at the Groff High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland, PA on Friday evening, May 3rd, from 6:00 to 8:00 P.M. Interment will be private and held at the convenience of the family in the Cedar Grove Presbyterian Cemetery.
