George E. Breslin, 89, a resident of Garden Spot Village, New Holland, PA, formerly of Akron, PA, died peacefully on Saturday, March 29, 2025. Born in Chambersburg, PA, he was the son of the late Bernard and Hilda (Jones) Breslin. He was the beloved husband of Susanna “Sue” M. (Drayer) Breslin with whom he shared 62 wonderful years of marriage.
George dedicated his life to education and service. He graduated from Chambersburg Area High School in 1956 and Millersville State College in 1961. Subsequently he began his career at Ephrata Senior High School where he taught industrial arts. In 1969 he stepped into the role of assistant principal, a position he held with care and commitment for 22 years until his retirement in 1991.
In addition to his work in education, George served proudly in the Pennsylvania Army National Guard for 30 years. In 1963, he graduated from the United States Army Aviation School, Fort Rucker, AL, earning his fixed and rotary wing certifications. He was awarded the Army National Guard Senior Army Aviator Badge in 1976. Rising to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel, he served as Battalion Commander of the 28th Aviation Battalion, a unit of the Army National Guard 28th Infantry Division. Prior to that he also served as the Aviation Company Commander of the 104th Armored Cavalry.
George had a deep love for the outdoors and enjoyed hunting, fishing, gardening, and woodworking. He also found joy in traveling, playing bridge, and most of all, spending time with his family and close friends.
A man of strong faith, George was a member of Trinity Lutheran Church, New Holland and previously Holy Trinity Lutheran Church, Ephrata, where he was active in several leadership and service roles over the years.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Molly J. Breslin, Jackson, WY; a son, Mark E. Breslin, husband of Gina (Hoover) Breslin of Lititz, PA; a granddaughter, Rachel (Breslin) Nice, wife of Micah Nice; and a grandson, Patrick Breslin.
The family wishes to express their heartfelt gratitude to the wonderful caregivers at Meadow View at Garden Spot Village, the team at Hospice & Community Care, and the many friends and volunteers who offered their support and companionship during George’s time there.
A memorial service will be held at Trinity Lutheran Church, New Holland, PA, on June 5th at 10:30 a.m. There will be time to greet the family after the service. A private interment will be held.
If desired, memorial contributions may be made to the Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund, New Holland, PA.
