George R. Denison, III, 84, of New Holland, formerly of Springfield, died Tuesday, September 30, 2014 at Garden Spot Village. His wife of 58 years, Barbara (Hays) Denison, survives.
Born in Philadelphia, he was the son of the late George R. Denison, Jr. and Eva (Button) Denison.
George graduated from Springfield High School in 1947 and received a B. S. in Horticulture from Penn State University in 1952. From 1952 to 1955, he served in the U. S. Army.
From the 1940’s until his retirement in 1988, he was self-employed as a greenhouse operator/florist known as Denison’s Greenhouses.
He was past president of the Springfield Rotary Club and was a member for 35 years and was also a member and boating instructor in U. S. Power Squadrons. He enjoyed RV’ing and travel, boating, gardening, woodworking, fishing, and photography.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by two children: William G. Denison, Springfield and Judith D. Proffitt (David), Spring City; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.
His funeral will be held on Saturday, October 4 at 10 a.m. at Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, PA 17557 with Dr. Mark Allison officiating. Interment will be in Edgewood Memorial Park, Glen Mills. A viewing will be held at the Beck Funeral Home, 315 E. Main St., New Holland on Friday from 6:30 – 8:30 p.m. and at the Garden Spot Village Chapel on Saturday from 9 – 10 a.m. If desired, memorial contributions may be sent to the Garden Spot Village Wood Shop, address above.
