George H. Douglas, 90, of Garden Spot Village, New Holland, formerly of Malvern, Chester County, passed away on June 21, 2024.
Born December 10, 1933, in St. Helens, England, he was the youngest son of the late Martha Annie (Walker) and John Hodgson Douglas.
George attended Cowley Boys’ School in St. Helens and went on to the University of Manchester to earn his PhD in chemistry. While at Manchester, he met and married Thelma. In 1961, George and Thelma came to Pennsylvania at the invitation of Wyeth to work on the synthetic birth control pill and other hormone therapy treatments. Later in his career, George moved to a research position at William H. Rorer, Inc.
George and his wife, Thelma, were married for 64 years and raised 4 children. He is survived by Helen Douglas of Salem, MA and her partner Mike Tomany, Ruth Douglas Miller and her husband Keith Miller of Morgantown, Susan F. Douglas-Reed and her husband Tom C. Reed of Lancaster, and Andrew and his wife Jennifer, five grandchildren, and six great grandchildren. In addition to his parents, George is preceded in death by two brothers and three sisters.
George was a man of many and varied talents, interests, and hobbies. He leaves us with his love of family, pets, science, mathematics, nature, music, athletics, travel and continuous learning.

Final arrangements were entrusted to Groff High Funeral Home in New Holland. The family will hold a celebration of George’s life at a later date.
