George F. Esch, 95, of Ephrata, died peacefully on Thursday, May 9, 2013 at Fairmount Homes.
Born in Denbigh, VA the son of the late Samuel and Minnie (Kurtz) Esch. He was married 23 years on July 8, 1989 to Ruth A. (Martin) Esch. His first wife, Elmira (Yoder) Esch died in 1988.
George worked as a truck driver for Blend & McGinnis Feed Mill in Atglen and later for Compass Quarries in Compass.
He was a member of the Ridgeview Mennonite Church. During WWII he served in C.P.S. in Grottos, VA and on farms in OH. He enjoyed hunting and reading the Bible. He often said, “If you have God’s word you’ll never be lonely.”
Surviving in addition to his wife are two children, C. David, married to Pauline (Harshbarger) Esch of Belleville, and Twila G., married to Willis W. Martin of Lititz; 6 grandchildren; 14 great grandchildren; a foster son, Richard Storm of Carson, CA; and a sister, Ruth Chonka of Pottstown.
Preceding him in death are two sisters, Iva Fehr and Eunice Wander; and five brothers, Vernon, Wilbur, Mahlon, James, and Paul Esch.
Funeral services will be held on Thursday, May 16 at 10 am at Ridgeview Mennonite Church, 3723 Ridge Road, Gordonville, with the Reverend Mick Sommers officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held on Wednesday from 2-4 pm at Fairmount Homes Wheat Ridge Chapel and on Thursday from 9-10 am at the Church.
