George E. Martin

George E. Martin, 80, of Valley View Road, Narvon, died Wednesday, Jan. 20, 2016, at his home. He is survived by his wife Brenda E. (Clark) Martin with whom he shared 24 years of marriage.


Born in Churchtown, he was the son of the late Abram W. and Marian (Yohn) Martin. He was a member of the Churchtown United Methodist Church.


An auto body man for 58 years, George owned Martin’s Auto Body Shop in Churchtown since 1965.


He had been an active member of Caernarvon Fire Co., the Morgantown & Beartown Rod & Gun Club, the NRA, and Willow Run Hunting Camp in Juniata County. He was also a member of Col. Morgan Chapter 557 of I.O.O.F., Morgantown. He volunteered at Historic Poole Forge. He enjoyed hunting, mowing, deer feeding, wildlife and travelling but especially time with family and friends.


Surviving in addition to his wife Brenda, are his daughters Melody, married to Gene Longer, Fivepointville, and Pam Martin, married to Keith Culotta, Beaumont, TX, stepsons Glenn R. Jr., married to Barbara Houck, Narvon, and Ronald E., married to Tammy Houck, Williamsport, a stepdaughter, Kim L., married to David Gunning, New Holland, ten grandchildren, Phillip, Angie, Shane, Jamie, Ian, Krystle, Travis, Jonathan, Jamey and Tina; 12 great grandchildren, a sister Mildred Snader, New Holland, and several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by a sister Kathryn Hostetter, a brother-in-law Glenn Hostetter, and a brother-in-law LeRoy Snader


Funeral services will be held on Wednesday, Jan. 27, at 11 a.m. at Churchtown United Methodist Church, 2170 Main Street, Churchtown (Narvon), with the Rev. David Kling officiating. Interment will follow in the U.M. Cemetery of Churchtown. Family will receive friends on Tuesday from 6-8 p.m. at Groff-High Funeral Home, 145 W. Main St., New Holland, and on Wednesday from 9:30-11 a.m. at the Church. Kindly omit flowers.
