Glenn Horst

Glenn Horst, 89, of 571 Valley Rd., Lancaster, died Thursday, December 10, 2015 at the Bob Fryer & Family Inpatient Hospice Center in Mount Joy.


Born in Hinkletown, he was the son of the late Aaron S., Sr. and Anna M. (Mellinger) Horst.


Glenn was the kind of person who made just about everyone smile. He was full of life, and his presence made a lot of people happy." Everyone commented on his beautiful blue eyes and his kind and gentle spirit. He enjoyed spending time outdoors, going on outings, and any type of music, especially traditional hymns. He loved attending Lancaster Generations and Sunday school at Calvary Church. He loved going out to eat with his housemates, and generally appreciated a good meal, especially dessert!

In addition to his family, he will be dearly missed by so many people, including his friends Nelson and Leon, his staff at Valley Road and the many other individuals and staff at Excentia who touched his life and whose lives he touched, the staff at Lancaster Generations, his teacher and classmates in the Shepherd's class at Calvary Church.


Surviving are two brothers: Aaron Horst, New Holland and Harold married to Arlene (Eckert) Horst, Hinkletown, and several nieces and nephews.


He was preceded in death by four siblings: W. Lester Horst, Clarence A. Horst, Ruth W. Herr and her husband Melvin, Mary Esther Horst, and a sister-in-law Mildred (Martin) Horst.


His memorial service will be held on Tuesday, December 15, 2015 at 11 a.m. at Hinkletown Mennonite Church, 2031 Division Hwy., Ephrata with Pastor Jeffrey S. Horst officiating. Private interment will be in the adjoining church cemetery. If desired, memorials may be sent to Excentia, 1810 Rohrerstown Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601. The Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland is in charge of arrangements. Online condolences may be posted at www.groffeckenroth.com.
