Grace E. Habalar

Grace Elizabeth Habalar, (Grammy Cookie), 91, formerly of Terre Hill, passed away quietly on November 21st, 2015 at Fairmount Homes where she resided for the past year. Born March 22, 1924 in Blue Ball, PA, she was the daughter of the late Norman and Cora Rutter Ziemer. Her husband, the late Robert W. Habalar passed away in 1965.

Surviving are sons Robert W., Jr., wife Shirley and Barry L., wife Jo, all of New Holland; 3 loving grandchildren, Carey Nicole, husband Peter Ruel, Lancaster; Jason Adam, wife Angela (Phillips), Portland, OR and Michael Henry, wife Tushanna (Brennan) of S. Williamsport, PA. Grace cherished her great grandchildren, Port Adam, Lee Crotalus, Niko Glenn and Jackson Levi.

Grace worked at the former Shirlee manufacturing in Terre Hill for many years, retiring in 1984.

An accomplished quilter, Grace and her sister, Mamie, produced quilts for all family members and sold others at local outlets. She also enjoyed making rugs, gardening and feeding the birds in her back yard. Grace was a great cook and baker, fondly and lovingly known as “Grammy Cookie” for the thousands of cookies baked at Christmas.

Also surviving are sisters Clara (Mamie) Maxwell, Mt. Joy; Mildred Boley, Narvon; brother Norman Jr., wife Janet of East Earl and sister-in-law Grace Ziemer, Ephrata; 5 nieces and 6 nephews.

She was preceded in death by brother Lester, niece Patricia Elmer and brothers-in-law George Maxwell and Morris Boley.

A funeral service will be held at Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill on Friday, November 27, 2015 at noon with visitation from 11 a.m. until time of service. Interment in Terre Hill Cemetery.
