Harold E. Bomberger, 82, of Leola, died Friday, January 10, 2014 at Lancaster General Hospital after a brief illness. Mr. Bomberger retired from Bomberger Brothers Inc., Leola, a landscaping and gardening firm, where he was self-employed for 33 years. He served in the Naval Reserves for eight years and was a volunteer with Boy Scouts of America as institutional representative for 12 years. He also served on the Scout’s fund-raising committee for the J. Edward Mack Scout Reservation, Newmanstown. He was a member of Grace Family Church where he taught Sunday School. He was a former member of Jerusalem Lutheran Church, where he was a Sunday School teacher for 54 years, served on the cemetery board as treasurer, and served on the property and stewardship committees. He was an avid hunter and fisherman.
Surviving is his wife, Dorothy Landis Bomberger, Leola; three daughters: Debra J. Scheuerlein, wife of Daniel Scheuerlein, Leola, Cyndee A. Johnson, wife of Henry Johnson, Williamsport, Karen S. Lubrich, wife of Otto Lubrich, Jr., Cherry Hill, NJ, and a son, Randall L. Bomberger, husband of Lisa Petticoffer Bomberger, Glen Burnie, MD; 13 grandchildren; five great grandchildren; and a brother, C. Russel Bomberger, husband of Judyth McDonell Bomberger, Leola.
He was preceded in death by his father, Allen H. Bomberger, his mother, Nora Rettew Bomberger and step-mother, Althea Smoker Bomberger and a sister Gladys Kroeck.
His funeral will be held on Thursday, January 16, 2014 at 11 a.m. at Grace Family Church, 415 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, PA 17557 with Pastor Tim Hodge officiating. Interment will be in Rothsville Lutheran Cemetery. A viewing will be held at the church on Thursday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of service. Kindly omit flowers.
