Harold S. Buckwalter

Harold S. Buckwalter, 79, of Mercer Street, Reading, died Thursday, Dec. 11, 2014, at St. Joseph Med. Ctr., Reading, after a year long battle with lung cancer. He was preceded in death by his wife Betty A. (Monks) Buckwalter on Feb. 9, 2014.

Born in Martindale, he was the son of the late Martin and Bessie (Good) Buckwalter.

Harold was an active member of the former Bethany E.C. Church, Martindale. He had worked for Terre Hill Silo and the former Sperry New Holland.

He was an avid bowler in leagues and had won many trophies.

He is survived by his children, Ricky, married to Joann Buckwalter, Denver, and Gail, married to John Merinsky, Reading, four grandchildren, two step grandchildren, three great grandchildren and three step great grandchildren. Also by his sisters, Jane Eby and Brenda Mueller Raniere and her husband Joseph, Terre Hill, and Linda, married to Robert Hartman, Lebanon, and a brother Ronald, married to Sandy Buckwalter, New Holland, as well as 25 nieces and nephews.

He was preceded in death by a brother Martin Buckwalter, Jr. and his sisters Arlene Herman and Joanne Ortiz.

Services will be held on Wednesday, Dec. 17, at 11 a.m. at Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 East Main St., Terre Hill, with Rev. Timothy Speicher officiating. Viewing will be from 10 – 11 a.m. on Wednesday at the Funeral Home. Interment will be in Bethany E.C. Cemetery.
