Harry Burkholder, 80, of Terre Hill, died Wednesday, Sept. 25, 2013, at Lancashire Hall following a brief illness. He is survived by his wife Betty Lou (Strothers) Burkholder with whom he shared 57 years of marriage.
Born in Red Run, he was the son of the late Samuel Burkholder and Anna (Steiger) Burkholder Whitekettle.
He was a self-employed carpenter for more than 30 years.
He served in the U. S. Army during the Korean War and was a member of the American Legion, Post 945 Wormleysburg.
Harry volunteered his time and carpentry skills to the community many times over the years, including numerous projects at the Terre Hill Community Park, and at his church, St. Paul’s United Methodist, Terre Hill.
Harry also enjoyed spending time with his family, especially his grandchildren.
Surviving, in addition to his wife Betty, are two sons, Scott Burkholder (partner of Susan Feaster ),Morgantown and Rick Burkholder, husband of Janice Burkholder, Ephrata and one daughter Rebecca (Burkholder), wife of Bruce Norwood, Reinholds; six grandchildren: Misty Knier Dormer wife of Eric, Amber (Burkholder) Maldonado wife of Jesse, Ashley (Burkholder) Lualhati, Amber Marie Burkholder, Austin Burkholder, and Elizabeth Burkholder.
Also surviving: a brother Leonard Burkholder of Fivepointville, and four sisters: Eva Dickersheid of Ephrata, Jenny (Ray Martin) of Rehoboth Beach DE., Beatrice Bord of Leola, and Pauline Sweigert of Lock Haven.
He was preceded in death by brothers William, Franklin, Donald, and Lee Burkholder and sisters, Florence Burkholder (infant) and Mary Stauffer.
We would like say a special thank you to the staff at Lancashire Hall for the wonderful care that Harry received during his stay there.
Services will be held at Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill on Tuesday, Oct. 1 at 2 p.m. with Rev. Dr. James Bamaberger officiating. Interment in Terre Hill Cemetery. A viewing will be held at Eckenroth’s on Tuesday from 1 – 2 p.m.
