Helen L. Martin, 90, a resident of the Mennonite Home, formerly of Marticville, passed away on Wednesday, December 13, 2023.
She was the wife of the late W. Mylin “Whitey” Martin who died in 2016 for over 60 years. Born in Drumore Township on May 4, 1933, she was the daughter of the late Aldus G. and Beulah Augusta Eckman Eshleman.
Helen had been employed as a library aid at Marticville Middle School for many years. She was a graduate of Manor-Millersville High School – now Penn Manor High School. Helen was a longtime member of the Conestoga United Methodist Church where she had been active as the recording secretary, taught Sunday School and Bible School, was on the administrative council and was a member of the United Methodist Women. She enjoyed gardening, canning, and cooking but her greatest interest in her life was spending time with her family. Several times a summer she would go with family to a Hunting cabin in Potter County. In the late 60s she would exchange letters with a nephew who was stationed in Vietnam. She gave endlessly of her time and talents to family, friends and sometimes even strangers.
She was famous for her weekly Sunday meals after church for family, friends and all who could make it..
Surviving are three children, Doug Martin of Holtwood, Denise wife of Doug Rankin of Marticville, and Dean husband of Lisa Martin of Pequea; eight grandchildren, Laura wife of Patrick Hallock of Lancaster, Stephanie wife of Dan Herrmann of Lititz, Emma wife of Nick Karoullas of Marietta, Kyle husband of Brandi Martin of Willow Street, Kurt Martin of Millersville, Nicole wife of Tim Shonk of Lancaster, and Darren and Dana Rankin of Marticville; ten great grandchildren, Nora, Patrick, Asher, Jacob, Michael, Torsten, Gunnar, Mason, Bennett and Hank. She was preceded in death by 4 brothers Alva, Robert, Gene, and Russell Eshleman.
A Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, December 21, at 11:00 A.M. at the Conestoga United Methodist Church, 71 Sand Hill Road, Conestoga, PA with the Rev. Mike Sigman officiating. Internment in the adjoining church cemetery. Friends may call at the church on Thursday from 10:00 A.M. until the time of the service.
