Helen Althouse Rutt, 82, of Landis Homes, Lititz, formerly of Landisville, went home to be with her Lord on Friday, September 13, 2013.
Born in Doylestown, she was the daughter of the late Wilmer B. and Martha (Histand) Althouse. She was married 58 years on Aug. 6 to Dr. Clarence H. Rutt, Jr.
Helen graduated from Doylestown High School in 1949 and as a Registered Nurse from the Grandview Hospital in Sellersville in 1955. She later worked in Philadelphia at Hahnemann Hospital and at Lancaster General Hospital. She worked for 8 years with Mennonite Central Committee in medical missions in Indonesia and helped in her husband’s office for a number of years.
Helen was a member of the Landisville Mennonite Church since 1971 where she served as Lay Minister of Evangelism, secretary to the pastor, Summer Bible School teacher, and was active in their share group. She enjoyed hosting, serving as coordinator for LOVE Inc., participating in Neighborhood Bible Study, gardening, preserving food, crossword puzzles, needlework, crewel, crocheting, sewing, walking, helping after the tsunami in Indonesia, and spending time with her children and grandchildren.
Surviving in addition to her husband are two daughters, Carol Jeanne, married to Edward Landis of Independence, KY, and Sue, married to Kevin Glick of Akron; two sons, Richard, married to Michelle (Musselman) Rutt of Ephrata, and J. Steven Rutt, married to Elena Sheina of Burke, VA; eight grandchildren; two great grandsons; two brothers and a sister, Vernon Althouse, married to Blanche of Souderton, Marie, married to Victor Stoltzfus of Goshen, IN, and Wayne Althouse, married to Janice of Souderton.
A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, September 17 at 6 pm at the Landisville Mennonite Church, 3320 Bowman Road, Landisville, with Pastor Jonathan Bowman and Pastor Julia Fisher officiating. Interment will be in the Landisville Memory Garden. The family will receive friends on Tuesday at the church from 5-6 pm.
