Irma E. Berstecher, 89, formerly of Philadelphia, died Monday, March 19, 2012, at Fairmount Homes where she had resided since 2006. She was preceded in death by her husband Charles R. Berstecher in 2008 and her son Rev. Dr. John C. Berstecher in 2011.
Born in Hammonton, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Julius and Rose (Menger) Rehmann.
Irma was a member of First Presbyterian Church of Holmesburg, where she had served as deacon and with sewing circle (Knit Wits). She also had been involved with the Neighborhood Watch Group in her community.
Surviving are a son, Robert W. Berstecher, D.D.S., married to Katharine (Monschein), of East Earl, seven grandchildren, three great grandchildren, and a daughter-in-law Beth (Ralston) Berstecher of Garnet Valley, PA.
Irma had also been preceded in death by ten brothers and sisters.
A memorial service will be held on Friday, March 23 at 10:30 am at Fairmount Homes Wheat Ridge Chapel, 333 Wheat Ridge Dr. Ephrata. The family will receive friends following the service. Interment will be in the Forest Hills Cemetery, Philadelphia. If desired, memorials in Irma’s memory may be made to Concord Liberty Presbyterian Church, 256 Bethel Road, Glen Mills, PA 19342.
A second memorial service will be held on Friday, March 30 at 11 am at Mayfair Presbyterian Church, corner of Tudor and Crispin Streets, Philadelphia, with the family receiving friends from 10:30 – 11am. Interment will be in the Forest Hills Cemetery, Philadelphia. If desired, memorials in Irma’s memory may be made to Concord Liberty Presbyterian Church, 256 Bethel Road, Glen Mills, PA 19342.
