Irvin W. Horning

Irvin W. Horning, 87, of 218 Wheat Ridge Dr., Ephrata, formerly of Terre Hill, died Saturday, December 29, 2012 at Ephrata Community Hospital following a brief illness.

Born in Denver, PA, Irvin was a son of the late Harvey B. and Nancy W. Horning. He was a member of Bowmansville Mennonite Church where he was actively involved in the life of the church. He faithfully volunteered his time at Fairmount Homes. He was a loving husband to his deceased wife, Grace. Her death in 2010 ended a marriage of 64 years.

Family activities brought him much joy. He enjoyed his many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Irvin is survived by eight children: Lucy married to John Nolt, Bowmansville; Ruth Ann married to Ron Robenolt, Watsontown; Lois married to Daniel Good, Reading; David married to Janice Horning, Mohnton; Sharon Cody, Denver; Betty Lou married to Kenneth Eberly, Reading; Eileen Weaver, Reinholds; J. Ronald married to Karen Horning, Mohnton; a foster son, Theodore married to Lorraine Englebach, Reading; 26 grandchildren; and 44 great-grandchildren.

He is survived by two brothers and a sister: Henry Horning, married to Lela, Harvey Horning, married to Ruth Ann, and Lena, married to Michael Brown. He was preceded in death by a sister, Verna Horning Shirk and a son-in-law, Mark Weaver.

His funeral will be held on January 2, 2013 at 10:00 AM at the Bowmansville Mennonite Church with Pastor Larry Weber and Bishop Carl Sensenig officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. A viewing will be held on Tuesday from 2-4:00 PM at the Fairmount Homes Wheat Ridge Chapel, and on Wednesday from 9 -10:00 AM at the church with the service following at 10:00 AM. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be sent to Fairmount Homes Sharing Fund, 333 Wheat Ridge Dr., Ephrata, PA 17522.
