J. Morris Sauder

J. Morris “Mike” Sauder, 90, of New Holland, formerly of East Main St., Leola, passed away early Monday, Oct. 26, 2015, at Lancaster General Hospital. He is survived by his wife Arlene (Esbenshade) Sauder. They celebrated their 70th anniversary Dec. 23, 2014.

Born in Lancaster, he was the son of the late Eli G. and Amanda (Burkhart) Sauder. He attended Upper Leacock High School and graduated Eastern Mennonite High School, Harrisonburg, VA, in 1942.

He was a member of Bethany Grace Fellowship, East Earl.

A retired farmer, he had also worked for John K. Denlinger Asphalt paving.

Mike was an avid hunter who enjoyed the Camp Windfall cabin in Potter County and enjoyed NASCAR racing. He had formerly been a member of Bareville Fire Company, Lancaster Aero Club and excelled in precision competition.

Surviving in addition to his wife Arlene, are his children John M., married to Donna (Martin) Sauder, Leola, Judy M. Rodgers, Prescott, AZ, and Barbara J., married to Galen Sweigart, Jr., New Holland, 9 grandchildren, 20 great grandchildren and 5 great great grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by his sister Naomi Denlinger.

Services will be held Friday, Oct. 30, at 1 p.m. at Bethany Grace Fellowship Church, 400 Reading Road, East Earl, PA, with Pastors Adam Nagle and Leon Shirk officiating. Interment will be at 4 p.m. Friday, at the Groffdale Mennonite Cemetery, 168 N. Groffdale Road, Leola. Friends may call at the church from 11:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. Friday. Arrangements are with Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland. Online condolences may be posted at www.groffeckenroth.com.
