Obituary

Jay “Jack” Marlin Hillard, 92, of New Holland, passed away on January 27, 2026 at Lancaster General Hospital.

Born in Greenbank, he was the son of the late John Marlin and Pearl (Martin) Hillard.

He was the former husband of Betty (Good) Hillard.

He attended Greenbank School and graduated from New Holland High School in 1951. After graduation, he learned the carpentry trade and built his first house at the age of 19. Later, he started his own insulation and siding business, Hillard Enterprises.

He was a member of Ranck’s United Methodist Church, Howell Lodge #405 and was involved in the Historic Poole Forge. He enjoyed woodworking, boating, block and trap shooting. He always had homemade peanut butter eggs for guests to enjoy. He also made sauerkraut annually. He was instrumental in refurbishing and relocating the New Holland town clock and publishing the Town Clock News. He made and distributed unique signs in the Greenbank area. In his retirement, he started Grandma Pearl’s Tree Farm.

Jack is survived by his children, Wanda wife of Robert Longer, Todd husband of Deb (Kauffman), Dawn wife of Duane Reynolds and Kent husband of Beverly (Spotts), 10 grandchildren, 14 great grandchildren and brother-in-law, James Yinger.

In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his son, Gregg Hillard (former companion of Barb Schneller) and sister, Shirley Yinger.

A private interment will be held in Ranck’s United Methodist Cemetery.

In honor of Gramps, his family will be having a luncheon on Saturday, April 11, 2026 starting at 12PM, held at his homestead. This will be a time of sharing stories of his life. All are welcome!
