Jacob L. Dagen, Jr., 88, of Lititz, and formerly of Pequea Township, died peacefully on Monday, February 12, 2024, at Landis Homes surrounded by family. Born in Strasburg, he was the son of the late Jacob L. and Florence Lefever Dagen. Jacob married his wife Mabel Bauman in August 1957, having been married 66 years.
Surviving in addition to his wife are daughters Brenda Beiler, wife of Leon, West Virginia, Sandra Kreider, wife of Jay, Millersville, Teresa Graybill, Willow Street and Cheryl Brubaker, wife of Geoff, Lancaster, and his son Jeffrey Dagen, husband of Connie, Landisville. He has 12 grandchildren and 14 great grandchildren with another due shortly. He is also survived by his brother, Lester Dagen, husband of Evelyn, Quarryville. He is predeceased by his brother Paul Dagen and sister Reba Martin.
Jacob worked for his brother-in-law, Glenn Nauman, at Nauman Construction for over 50 years having served as senior vice president, board member and any role he was given. He was known for his strong work ethic which he learned at home working on the farm and encouraged others to do their best as well.
He was a lifelong member of Byerland Mennonite Church and gave his time in many areas including song leader, teacher, and Trustee. He had a love for hymns, played the piano and participated in several men’s singing groups over the years.
Jacob was an avid outdoorsman. He hunted and fished across North America and was a member of the Red Shingle Hunting Camp.
Jacob was also part of the “Old Buddies” a large group of friends who has continued to meet and fellowship together through every season of life.
Jacob will be remembered for loving God and loving people: from his wife and family to his friends, Church family and the many men and women he had the privilege to work with over the years. The family expresses their thanks to the nurses and aids who cared, and loved our father during his time in the Ephrata House at Landis Homes.
A private interment service will be held at Byerland Cemetery. Everyone is invited to attend Jacob’s memorial service at the Landis Homes Retirement Community, WEST BETHANY CHAPEL, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, on Saturday, March 9, 2024, at 10:30 A.M. Visitation with family will be from 9:00 A.M. until the time of the service. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be sent in Jacob’s memory to Landis Homes, 1001 East Oregon Road, Lititz, PA 17543 for their caring fund.
