Jacob Z. Horst

Jacob Z. Horst, 94, formerly of Dry Tavern Rd., Denver, went home to be with the Lord on Friday, January 22, 2016 at Ephrata Manor. He was preceded in death by his wife, Leona M. (Peachey) Horst in 2004.

Born in Clay, he was the son of the late Clayton and Annie (Zimmerman) Horst.

He and his wife owned and operated Jake & Leona’s Restaurant at the Green Dragon Farmer’s Market from 1955-1985.

Jake had served in the Army Air Corps during World War II.

He was a member of Calvary Church, Lancaster and enjoyed gardening, biking, camping, and photography.

Surviving are three children: Larry J. married to Barbara (Wingenroth) Horst, Stevens; Leon D. married to Linda K. (Fassnacht) Horst, New Holland and Nancy married to Randy Burkholder, Denver; eight grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

He was preceded in death by six siblings: Mary Sweigart, Miriam Hahn, Reuben Horst, Titus Horst, Eva Ulrich, and Elsie Hovey.

A memorial service will be held at Calvary Church, 1051 Landis Valley Rd., Lancaster, PA 17601 on Tuesday, February 2, 2016 at 2 p.m. with Pastor Eric G. Crichton officiating.
