James D. Briscoe

James D. Briscoe, 84 of New Holland, died Thursday, August 25, 2016 at Garden Spot Village after a long battle with Parkinson's disease. Born in Philadelphia, and raised in Drexel Hill he was the son of the late James O. and Edna (Lenker) Briscoe. His first wife, Ruth E. (Weber) Briscoe, died July 2, 2009. He married Mary Ellen (Bough) Briscoe on April 23, 2011.


Jim attended the University of Pennsylvania and graduated in 1962 from the Wharton School of Business. He worked as a commercial lending officer for the former Philadelphia National Bank, now Wells Fargo retiring in 1994.


He was a member of Christian Fellowship Church in New Holland and a former member of Bethany Collegiate Presbyterian Church in Havertown, PA. Stationed in Hawaii during the Korean Conflict, Jim served as a cryptographer for the US Army. He enjoyed woodworking, golfing and spending time with his five (Shannon, Benjamin, Maura, Daniel and Jonathan) grandchildren.


A memorial service will be held on Tuesday, August 30 at 2pm in the Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S. Kinzer Ave., New Holland, PA with the Rev. Dr. Doug Bozung and Chap. Chet Yoder officiating. The family will receive friends from 1:00 – 2 pm. In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the Billy Graham Evangelistic Association (www.billygraham.org).
