James N. Hillegass

James N. Hillegass, 93, of Narvon, formerly of Terre Hill, Hanover, and New Holland, died Friday, December 28, 2018 at Zerbe Sisters Nursing Center. His wife, A. Faye (Hahn) Hillegass, preceded him in death in 2012.

Born in Leola, he was the son of the late Nevin H. and Elsie (Myer) Hillegass.

Jim was an examiner supervisor for the PA Department of Banking, retiring in November 1990.

He was a member of Trinity E. C. Church, Terre Hill, and formerly a member of Emmanuel U. C. C., Hanover. He was also an active participant in the Lamberton Lodge #476, Lancaster, F & A. M., Lancaster Lodge of Perfection, 32o Mason at Valley of Reading, Scottish Rite, Royal Arch Chapter #13, York Rite, Lancaster Commandry #13, Knights Templar, the Rajah Shriners, Reading, Lancaster County Shrine Club, VFW #7362, New Holland and the American Legion #662, New Holland, and American Legion, Hanover.

He was instrumental in starting the program to deliver flowers to shut-in veterans at Easter and Christmas.

During World War II, he served in the U. S. Navy

Surviving are three children: James M. married to Barbara Hillegass, Harrisburg, Kristi married to Paul Wallace, New Holland, Melinda married to Donald Craumer, Hanover, four grandchildren: Mark, Ben, Beth and Michael and a two great-grandchildren Zoe and Alex, two sisters: Mary Ann Greiner and Dorothy Hillegass of Brethren Village.

He was preceded in death by a brother, Charles Hillegass.

His funeral will be held on Thursday, January 3, 2019 at 11 a.m. at Eckenroth Home for Funerals, 209 E. Main St., Terre Hill. A viewing will be held at Eckenroth’s on Thursday from 10 – 11 a.m. A Masonic service will be held at the conclusion of the viewing. Interment will be in Terre Hill Cemetery.
