James H. Lafferty

James H. Lafferty, 82, of 82 Holly Drive, New Holland, died early Friday, March 23, 2012, at Garden Spot Village. He is survived by his wife, Ethel H. (Hart) Lafferty, to whom he would have been married 59 years on April 4.

Born in Caernarvon Twp., he was the son of Anna (Whiteman) Lafferty of Ephrata and the late Jessiah “Jesse” P. Lafferty.

Jim was a very active member of Bridgeville E.C. Church, Narvon, and formerly with Boy Scouts, New Holland Memorial Park and Farm Show. He had been an active volunteer with the New Holland Fire Company and V.F.W. Post 7362.

During the Korean Conflict, he served as a Sgt. in the U.S. Marine Corps.

Jim retired from the U.S. Postal Service after 35 years as a mail carrier.

Surviving in addition to his wife are a son Shaun, married to Pam (Howe) Lafferty of New Holland, a daughter Shelly Sheaffer of Millersburg, three grandchildren, Caleb Sheaffer, Tonya and Casey Lafferty, four great grandchildren, Brayden, Emrie, Haylie, and Duncan, and two brothers, George F., married to Sylvia Lafferty of Henderson, NV, and the Rev. Marlin P., married to Maryann Lafferty, of Leesport.

He was preceded in death by a grandson Jared Sheaffer.

Friends are invited to a visitation with the family at the Beck Funeral Home, 315 East Main Street, New Holland, on Friday, March 30, from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Private interment will be in the Bridgeville Cemetery. A Memorial Service will be held at Bridgeville E.C. Church on Saturday, March 31, at 2 p.m. with Rev. Phil Walck officiating. Family will receive friends from 1 – 2 p.m. at the church. In lieu of flowers, contributions in honor of Jim may be sent to Bridgeville E.C. Church, 5971 Division Hwy., Narvon, PA 17555 or to Hospice of Lancaster County, P.O. Box 4125, Lancaster, PA 17604-4125.
