Joan Elizabeth Young, née Reznar, a devoted educator, homemaker, and cherished member of her community, passed away on June 3, 2026. Born on August 22, 1944, in Hays, Kansas, Joan was a woman whose life reflected unwavering dedication, kindness, and patience.
Joan’s journey was marked by a profound commitment to education and family. She graduated from Indiana University of Pennsylvania with a degree in education, which laid the foundation for her career as a mathematics teacher within the Reading school district. Her love for learning and teaching was further demonstrated when she earned her Master's in Engineering from Penn State University, showcasing her remarkable intellectual curiosity and drive.
Her professional accomplishments, however, were harmoniously balanced with an extraordinary personal devotion. Joan spent much of her life as a homemaker, dedicating her time and energy to the care and support of her developmentally delayed son. This role highlighted her exceptional capacity for compassion and patience, qualities that also defined her partnerships and relationships. Alongside her late husband, David S. Young, Joan contributed meaningfully to his ministry, embodying a spirit of service and partnership in faith.
Joan’s gentle nature and caring heart touched many lives. She is survived by her sons, Jonathan Young and Andrew Young, who continue to carry forward her legacy of love and perseverance. She is also remembered fondly by her nephew, Christopher Young. Joan was preceded in death by her beloved husband, David S. Young, as well as her parents, Albert Reznar and Barbara Lucas, whose memories remain deeply cherished.
