John Henry Horst

John Henry Horst, 85, of 1507 Union Grove Road, East Earl, died Sunday, December 1, 2013, at his home. He is survived by his wife, Emma (Zeiset) Horst.

Born in East Earl Twp., he was the son of the late Mahlon and Alta (Zimmerman) Horst.

John was a member of the Spring Grove Mennonite Church, Groffdale Conference. He was a retired farmer and then a brick layer for years.

Surviving in addition to his wife are 11 children, Esther, married to Edward Zimmerman of Thorp, WI, Mahlon, married to Ruth (Redcay) Horst of Morgantown, Irvin, married to Mary (Garman) Horst of East Earl, Aaron, married to Loretta (Metzler) Horst of Denver, Lucy, married to Melvin Hoover of New Holland, Laura, married to Nelson Horst of Thorp, WI, John, Jr., married to Anna Mary (Martin) Horst of Narvon, Emma, married to Clyde Horst of Stanley, WI, David, married to Ruth (Martin) Horst of Narvon, Mary Ann, married to Vernon Martin of Penn Yan, NY, and Anna Mae, married to Nelson Martin of Shippensburg; 75 grandchildren; 103 great grandchildren; a brother, Milton, married to Lydia (Weaver) Horst of East Earl; and six sisters, Esther, wife of the late Weaver Martin of East Earl, Ruth, married to Ivan Zimmerman of East Earl, Martha, married to Adin Martin of Mt. Joy, Vera, married to Leroy Reiff of Huntington, Elizabeth, married to Raymond Zimmerman of Denver, and Edna, married to Harry Leinbach of Barnett, MO.

Preceding him in death are three brothers, Christian, Luke, and Mahlon, Jr.; a sister, Mabel Zeiset; and three grandchildren.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, December 6 at 9 am at the late home with further services at 9:30 am at the Spring Grove Mennonite Church with the Bishop Elam Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held at the late home on Thursday from 2-4 and 6-8 pm. Kindly omit flowers. Arrangements by Eckenroth Home for Funerals
