John J. Hoover, 81, of Denver, died Friday, June 10, 2016 at his residence. He was the loving husband of Lydia (Newswanger) Hoover, with who he shared over 59 years of marriage.
Born in Earl Twp., he was a son of the late Benjamin and Elizabeth (Reiff) Hoover.
John was a farmer and a member of Muddy Creek Mennonite Church.
In addition to his wife, John is survived by 8 children: Esther Hoover, Denver, PA; Earl Hoover, married to Elva (Zimmerman), Shelby OH; Ada, married to Ivan Horning, Mifflinburg, PA; Allen Hoover, married to Ruth (Zimmerman), Plymouth, OH; Elva, married to Eugene Shirk, Shiloh, OH, Warren Hoover, married to Luetta (Hoover), Owen, WI; Lucy, married to Nelson B. Martin, Ephrata, PA; and Mark Hoover, Denver, PA; 3 siblings: Rufus Hoover, Michigan; Raymond Hoover, Ephrata, PA; and Ella Hoover, Denver, PA; 36 grandchildren; and 22 great-grandchildren.
He was preceded in death by his parents; 4 siblings: Irwin, Harry, Laura, and Paul; and a still-born granddaughter.
His funeral will be held on Wednesday, June 15, 2016 at 9 AM at his home, 1020 Beam Rd., Denver PA with further services at 9:30 AM at Muddy Creek Mennonite Church, 502 S. Muddy Creek Road, Denver PA with Bishop Ammon Weaver officiating. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery. Viewings will be held on Tuesday from 2-4 PM and 6-8 PM at John’s home, address above.
