John M. Horst

John M. Horst, 87, passed away on November 26, 2023 as a resident of Richland Christian Home.

Born in Leola, he was the son of the late Amos H. and Lena (Martin) Horst.

He was the husband of the late Elva (Sensenig) Horst, until her passing on September 24, 2001 and the late Maggie (Burkholder) Horst, until her passing on December 28, 2016.

He was a member of Fairmount Mennonite Church (Weaverland Conference) and was a farmer.

John is survived by five daughters: Erma Louise Horst of Morgantown, Twila Mae wife of Melvin M. Oberholtzer of Womelsdorf, Lucille Anne wife of Clair M. Good of East Earl, Loretta S. wife of Elvin H. High, Jr. of Ephrata, and Orpha Jean wife of Jason N. Eberly of Myerstown, two sons: Kenneth S. husband of Lillian M. (Martin) Horst of NY and Marlin S. husband of Carolyn B. (Hurst) Horst of Narvon, a son-in-law: Aaron Z. Nolt, Jr. of Ephrata, 38 grandchildren and 68 great grandchildren. Also surviving are his siblings: Aaron Horst of Richland, Franklin Horst of Ephrata, James husband of Nora Horst of MO, Edwin husband of Ruth Horst of MO, Vera wife of Allen Fox of MO, Lena Weiler of MO, Katie wife of Leon High of Robesonia, Amelia wife of Arthur Weaver of Ephrata, Margaret wife of Henry Martin of Myerstown and Mary Ellen wife of Leon Martin of MO, brother in law: Luke Burkholder and sister in laws: Grace Martin and Loretta Horst.

In addition to his parents and wives, he is preceded in death by his children: Elva Jane Nolt and Curvin Sensenig Horst, five brothers: Phares, Martin, Amos, Clarence and Leon Horst, a sister: Anna Burkholder and a great grandson: Noah Zeiset.

A Funeral Service will be held on Monday, December 4, 2023 at 9:30 A.M. at the Fairmount Mennonite Church, 520 Little Britain Road North, Quarryville, PA with Bishop Curvin Z. Zimmerman officiating. Interment in the adjoining church cemetery. A Viewing will be held on Sunday, December 3, 2023 from 5:00 to 8:00 P.M. at the Farmcrest Chapel at Fairmount Homes, 1100 Farmcrest Drive, Ephrata, PA.
