John S. Kurtz

John S. Kurtz, 91, of Ephrata, died Sunday, February 24, 2019 at Fairmount Homes.

He was the husband of the late Louella H. Rutt Kurtz who died in 2009. Born in East Earl Twp, he was the son of the late Aaron H. and Edna B. Sensenig Kurtz.

John spent his career in the poultry manufacturing industry and was a partner in Favorite Manufacturing with his brothers. John enjoyed gardening and woodcarving and spending time with his family. He was a member of the Groffdale Mennonite Church, Weaverland Conference.

Surviving is a daughter, Barbara wife of Richard Farneth of Lititz; three sons, Melvin, husband of Judy Horst Kurtz of New Holland, John, husband of Doris Weaver Kurtz of Stevens, and Linford Kurtz of Farmersville; five grandchildren, Jessica Kurtz Herlein, wife of Brad Herlein, Brandon, husband of Sheila Weaver Kurtz, Rebecca Farneth, Jeremy, husband of Brittany Hurst Kurtz, and Jeffrey Kurtz; four great grandchildren; two brothers, Aaron S. husband of Janet Landis Kurtz of New Holland, and Willis S. husband of Ann Marie Martin Kurtz of Ephrata; and three sisters, Jane S., wife of Melvin M. Nolt of Richland, Vera S. Kurtz of New Holland, and Edna S., wife of Glenn Shonk of Ephrata. He was preceded in death by a brother, Norman S. Kurtz and by a sister, Elva S. Zeiset.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, February 28, at 9 am at Fairmount Homes Wheat Ridge Chapel, 333 Wheat Ridge Dr., Ephrata, with further services at 9:30 at Groffdale Mennonite Church with the Bishop Curvin Z. Zimmerman officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held at the Wheat Ridge Chapel on Wednesday from 5:00-8:00 PM. Kindly omit flowers.
