John M. Weaver

John M. Weaver, 89, of New Holland, passed into the presence of Jesus on Monday, January 9, 2017 at Garden Spot Village.

Born in New Holland, he was the son of the late Chester H. and Mattie (Martin) Weaver. He was married 66 years on February 11 to Alma (Lefever) Weaver.

John owned and operated a dairy farm in New Holland until his retirement in 1979. From 1980-1984 he drove school bus for Hinkletown Mennonite School, from 1986-1996 he sold real estate, and then worked at Homestead Nutrition.

He was a member of Weaverland Mennonite Church where he served as a Sunday school teacher and trustee and he also served on the board of directors of Brotherly Aid Fire and Storm Plan. He enjoyed traveling, spending time with his family, fishing, and golfing.

Surviving in addition to his wife are five children, Nelson, married to Joyce (Keener) Weaver of New Holland, Delmar, married to Sue (Martin) Weaver of Lykens, Don, married to Linda (Horst) Weaver of New Holland, Phyllis, married to Don Weiler of Morgantown, and Dennis, married to Karen (Kreider) Weaver of New Holland; 29 grandchildren; 62 great grandchildren; a brother, Alvin Weaver of Landis Homes; two sisters, Esther Youd of Myerstown, and Grace, married to Elmer Martin of Ephrata; a son-in-law, Elvin, married to Marilyn Sauder of East Earl; and a daughter-in-law, Wilma, married to Glenn Ricker of Intercourse.

Preceding him in death is a daughter, Lorraine Sauder; a son, Carl Weaver; a granddaughter, Heidi Weaver; three brothers, Paul, Melvin, and Chester Weaver; and three sisters, Edith Newswanger, Mary Ella Weaver, and Lena Hoover.

The family would like to thank the staff at Garden Spot Village and also the caregivers at Hospice & Community Care for their compassionate care over the past few weeks.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, January 13 at 3 pm at Weaverland Mennonite Church, 210 Weaverland Valley Road, East Earl, PA 17519 with the Brian Martin, C. Kenneth Martin, and Leon Hurst officiating. Private interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held on Thursday, at the Church, from 6-8 pm and a visitation, at the church, on Friday from 2-3 pm.
