John E. Mccomsey

John E. “Ed” McComsey, 93, of New Holland, formerly of Coatesville, died Sunday, May 26, 2013 at Hospice & Community Care, Lancaster, after a lengthy illness.

Born in Coatesville, he was the son of the late Vernon and Anna (Hoover) McComsey. He was married 26 years on March 14 to Anna M. (Martin) King McComsey.

Ed was a steel worker for 43 years at Lukens Steel in Coatesville. He was a former member of the Coatesville Presbyterian Church and was currently attending St. John’s Center Lutheran Church.

He was an 80 year member of the Boy Scouts of America, Troop 51, Order of the Arrow, where they lovingly called him “Gumps.” He also enjoyed hunting, camping, and spending time at his cabin in Franklin County.

Surviving in addition to his wife are three daughters, Judy McComsey of Auburndale, FL, Jayne, married to Roger Lextrait of Palm Coast, FL, and Joa Ann, married to Bud Fleshman of Gettysburg, PA; 7 grandchildren; 7 great grandchildren; a great-great grandchild; and two step daughters.

Preceding him in death are two sons, Charles and Fred McComsey; and two brothers, Vernon and Carl McComsey.

Funeral services will be held on Saturday, June 1 at 10 am at St. John’s Center Lutheran Church, 599 Reading Road, East Earl, with the Reverend Robert Kramer officiating. Interment will be in the Forks of the Brandywine Presbyterian Cemetery in Glenmoore. Viewing will be held on Friday from 6-8 pm at the Beck Funeral Home, 315 E. Main St., New Holland and on Saturday from 9-10 am at the Church. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Boy Scouts of America, Brandywine Troop 51, 5 Carol Lane, Coatesville, PA 19320.
