John D. Stoner

John D. Stoner, 88 of Fairmount Homes, formerly of Leola, peacefully went Home to be with his Lord and Savior on July 7, 2025. He was the son of the late John and Mary (Leaman Rutt) Stoner.

John was the devoted husband of Martha (Landis) Stoner. They celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary on December 26, 2024, and cherished times of traveling to Florida, Switzerland and the Canadian Rockies.

John is lovingly remembered by his family as a godly and dedicated father. Surviving are his children: Barb (Roger) Carper and Barry (Brenda Steiner) Stoner, both of Lancaster.

He will be missed by his five grandchildren: Brett Carper (Jamie Stauffer), Jerell Carper (Lauren Arbuckle), Trent Carper, Alisha (Addison Hurst), and Joshua Stoner and five great-grandchildren.

John graduated from West Lampeter H.S. in 1955. He served the Future Farmers of America as local Chapter President, Lancaster County President and Pennsylvania State Vice President.

John grew up farming with his father and operated his own dairy farm for nine years. He later worked 36 years for C.B. Hoobers, Inc. In retirement he worked part-time at Weaver’s Hardware.

John enjoyed music, especially singing in the 4-H quartet that won national recognition, Barber Shop quartet and church quartets.

John faithfully participated in church life, including the past 51 years at Stumptown Mennonite Church, Bird-in-Hand. He served in various positions including deacon, church chair, cabinet member, Sunday school teacher and song leader.

In addition to his parents, John was preceded in death by his four sisters: Arlene Miller, Erma Huber, Violet Herr Mowrer and Joanne Herr.

A memorial service will be held on Friday, July 18th at 10:00 am at Stumptown Mennonite Church, 2813 Stumptown Road, Bird-in-Hand, Pa. Family will be available for greeting following the service.

Interment will be privately held. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in John’s memory to: Global Disciples, 315 W James Street, Suite 202, Lancaster, Pa. 17603 or Fairmount Homes, 333 Wheat Ridge Drive, Ephrata, Pa. 17522 or Stumptown Mennonite Church.

The family would like to thank the Nursing Staff at Fairmount Homes for the compassionate care given to John.
