John W. Tennis, 86, of New Holland passed away on November 4, 2023 after a short stay at Lancaster General Hospital.
Born in Cains, he was the son of the late Walter C. and Nora V. (Plank) Tennis.
He was the loving husband of Anne B. (Brubaker) Tennis, with whom he married on March 3, 1956 and shared sixty seven years of marriage.
John worked for Brubaker Sewing Services for twenty years then became the owner for the next twenty-two years, retiring in 1999. He served in the United States Navy and was a member of the former St. Stephen U.C.C for fifty-seven years, where he served on the consistory and have been attending Garden Spot Community Church for the past few years. He was on the New Holland Borough Council, the bank board for Coatesville Savings, the New Holland Kiwanis Club, the New Holland Business Association and a member of the Lancaster Country Club. He enjoyed golfing, collecting coins, and traveling. John and Anne had traveled to every state in the United States and his favorite place to travel to was Africa, where they had gone twice.
John is survived by his wife, Anne, his siblings; Ellen wife of Edward Poliski, Charles husband of Shirley Tennis and Ruth wife of Michael McHenry, sister-in-law; Charlotte Tennis and many nieces and nephews. Also surviving are his caregiver; Joan Raphael, who has cared for John for the past five years, his beloved Havanese; Mugsy and his many caregivers that he has had over the last ten years.
In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by his children; Gary Lynn Tennis, Gail Renee Tennis and Angela Lynn Tennis and brother; Walter Tennis.
A Memorial Service will be held on Tuesday, November 14, 2023 at 11:00 AM at the Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 S Kinzer Avenue, New Holland PA with Chaplain Chet Yoder officiating. A time of visitation will be held after the memorial service. A private burial in St. Stephen’s Reformed Church Cemetery. In lieu of flowers, memorials in John’s memory may be sent to CrossNet Ministries, 123 W. Franklin St., New Holland, PA 17557 or Anchor Lancaster, 29 E. Walnut St., Lancaster, PA 17602.
Groff High Funeral Home in New Holland is entrusted with the funeral arrangements.
