Mrs. June J. Fahnestock (née Yarger), 92, died Friday, December 9, at Garden Spot Village, New Holland, following a long decline in health. With Bob, her husband of 69 years, Mrs. Fahnestock had resided at Garden Spot Village since 2009. She was born in Cleveland, OK, June 25, 1919, eldest of 5 children of Wayne and Pearl (Mitchell) Yarger. After graduating high school, she became employed and moved to nearby Tulsa, OK. In 1941, less than a week after the US entered World War II, she met her future husband John Robert Bob Fahnestock, of Manheim, PA, who was studying at the Tulsa school of aeronautics. They married March 21, 1942 in Tulsa. After the war the couple relocated to Pennsylvania, residing in a series of homes in Lebanon, Harrisburg, Springfield (Delaware County), and Williamsport. Mrs. Fahnestock was a homemaker and mother of four children: Bob, Jr., Ron, Jo Ann, and Roger. After Mr. Fahnestocks retirement, the couple moved to Hummelstown, residing there until relocating to Garden Spot Village. Mrs. Fahnestock is survived by her husband, her four children, four grandchildren, and six great-grandchildren, as well as by two sisters and a brother. Mrs. Fahnestock was an avid reader and devoted letter-writer, a former Sunday school teacher and volunteer librarian. She had been a member of Methodist churches in Springfield and Williamsport. She enjoyed gardening and was an accomplished cook. For many years she and her husband wintered in Sarasota, FL, and they spent six months in the Dominican Republic in economic volunteer service in 1981. Funeral services will be held at 10AM Thursday, December 15, at the chapel at Garden Spot Village, New Holland. A memorial gathering will follow at the Village Park in the Garden Spot Village Visitor Center from 11AM to 1PM. Private burial will occur at Indiantown Gap National Cemetery, Annville. Donations in the name of Mrs. June Fahnestock may be made to the Garden Spot Village Benevolent Fund.
