Karene Swartz Zimmerman, 81, a resident of Landis Homes, entered her place in heaven on February 22, 2026.
She was the wife of Mark B. Zimmerman for over 56 years. Born in West Chester, PA, she was the daughter of the late Ernest and Wanda Swartz.
Karene spent most of her life in Chester County except for high school, Eastern Mennonite School Class of 1962, and College, Eastern Mennonite University Class of 1967 with a Home Economics Degree. She then taught at Iowa Mennonite High School and Dock Academy. After getting a Master’s Degree in Nutrition from Drexel University, she did Adjunct Professorship.
Karene was a faithful and active member of Frazer Mennonite Church, and after moving to Landis Homes she worshipped at Forest Hills Mennonite Church. She was a diligent and active supporter of the Bridge of Hope Organization.
Surviving besides her husband are two daughters, Monica Zimmerman and Ashley Zimmerman wife of James Casey who both live and work in Philadelphia; and siblings, Jane Keener wife of John Van Osdol, Helen wife of Larry Mast, Ernest M. husband of Mary Swartz, Sharon Swartz Maust, Stanley husband of Ann Swartz, and Richard Swartz.
A Memorial Service will be held on Friday, March 20, at 2:00 P.M. at Landis Homes, West Bethany Chapel, 1001 E. Oregon Road, Lititz, PA. The family will greet friends from 1:00 to 2:00 P.M. and also after the service. If desired, contributions in her name may be made to Bridge of Hope, P.O. Box 304, Exton, PA 19341.
