Kevin J. Herr

Kevin Joseph Herr, 58, of the Horseshoe Road Friendship Community Home in Lancaster, passed away on 24 Nov 2012 at Lancaster General Hospital, surrounded by friends and family.

Kevin was formerly from 340 Warren Street, New Holland, Melmark Home in Berwyn, PA, and Selinsgrove Center in Selinsgrove, PA. Born in Lancaster on 3 Dec 1953, he was the son of Kenneth & Corinne Herr, who preceded him in death in 2008.

Kevin is survived by three siblings: Jeffrey K. Herr, of Ephrata, Karen C. Seiple of New Holland, and Claudia S. Beebe of Landenberg, PA.

Kevin was born with severe physical and mental challenges that persisted throughout much of his life. Despite his inability to speak, Kevin developed his own unique means of communicating with his family and with dedicated caregivers, through sounds and gestures. Kevin had a great sense of humor and loved to tease and be teased. He was an avid fan of music from the ‘50s-‘70s, especially Motown and Doo-wop. He was always more than happy to play his music for visitors, usually at top volume! He lived at home with his loving parents Ken & Corinne until age 21. Kevin worked at Lighthouse Vocational Services in New Holland, and was a member of St. Stephen United Church of Christ.

A closed-casket visitation and fellowship will be held Wed 28 Nov from 6:00–8:00 PM at Beck Funeral Home, 315 East Main Street, New Holland. A closed casket visitation and fellowship will continue at 10:00 AM on Thur 29 Nov at St. Stephen United Church of Christ, 249 E. Main St., New Holland. A funeral service will begin at 11:00 AM in the church. A graveside burial service (private) will follow the funeral.
