LaReta Burkhart Hacker, 95, died Thursday, Jan. 17, 2013, at Ephrata Manor. She was preceded in death by her husband John F. Hacker.
Born in Ephrata, she was the daughter of the late Isaac and Alta (High) Burkhart.
Prior to living at Ephrata Manor, she lived in Brownstown, PA, for 50 years where she was a member of Ebenezer Evangelical Congregational Church and worked as a seamstress at Shore and Son, Brownstown.
LaReta is survived by her son-in-law and caregiver Dr. Lloyd Ruoss of Marriottsville, MD, six grandchildren: Lynne McCracken of Cherry Hill, NJ, Elizabeth Bossi of White Haven, PA, John Hacker of Lancaster, PA, Ayrie Golden, of Shippensburg, PA, Ashley Hacker, of Lititz, PA, and Quinn Hacker of Lancaster, PA, and eight great grandchildren. Surviving also are two sisters, Mildred Weaver of New Holland and Virginia Zeigler of Columbus, Ohio.
Preceding her in death were her daughter, Myra H. Ruoss, and a son, John F. Hacker, Jr., as well as eight brothers and sisters.
A Celebration of Life service will be held on February 14, at 3 p.m., at the Donecker Chapel, Ephrata Manor, 99 Bethany Road, Ephrata, PA, with Chaplain Sally Maxwell officiating.
