Lawrence E. Lewis

Lawrence E. Lewis, 83, of New Holland, passed away at home on Monday, September 14, 2026, surrounded by his loving family, after a courageous battle with cancer. Lawrence was born in Audubon, NJ, to his late parents, Frank Wilson and Marjorie (Mattas) Lewis. His beloved wife of 61 years, Linda L. (Wick) Lewis survives at home.

Lawrence grew up in Upper Darby and was a graduate of Upper Darby High School. After graduating high school, he took a job at the local bubble gum factory, carrying 50lbs bags of powdered sugar up a ladder and heaving them into a vat, making bubble gum for baseball card packs. Shortly after taking this job, Lawrence began attending an accelerated surgical tech program at the University of Pennsylvania Hospital, recommended to him by a neighbor who was an instructor. After graduation, he began working at HUP, and there he met a young surgical nurse by the name of Linda L. Wick.

Lawrence was drafted to serve in the Army during the Vietnam War. He served at an Army base, in Albuquerque, NM, in the operating rooms. He and Linda married one year after meeting and she joined him in Albuquerque, serving out his two-year deployment caring for soldiers and their families. After his time was served, Lawrence and Linda returned to Philadelphia, beginning their family and his 35-year career with Verizon. He and Linda remained in their family home for 48 years in Conshohocken, before retiring to Garden Spot Village in New Holland in 2020.

In his spare time, Lawrence continued to nurture his love for music. He sang with the Village Choir at Garden Spot Village and throughout the greater Philadelphia region as a featured soloist. He loved to care for his flower and vegetable gardens, travel and cruise with his family, and enjoy any good book, including historical and mystery novels. And he always enjoyed cheering on the Eagles and Flyers whenever he was able.

In addition to his beloved wife, Lawrence is survived by his children, Jeffrey Lawrence Lewis and his wife Lisa, of Abingdon, Marc Ernest Lewis and his wife Amy, of East Norriton, Laura Louise Lewis and her husband Matthew Giorgio, of Exeter, and Cynthia Lynn Coyle and her husband Patrick, of Schwenksville. He is also survived by his grandchildren, Jeffrey Lewis, Tyler Churach, Patrick “PJ” Coyle, Zachary Churach, Ryan Coyle, Jacob Churach, Kayleigh Coyle, and Benjamin Churach. In addition, Lawrence is survived by his siblings, Frank Lewis and his wife Elizabeth, Nancy Lewis, and sisters-in-law, Linda Lewis and Terri Lewis.

In addition to his parents, Lawrence was predeceased by his siblings, David Lewis and Stepehen Lewis.

A Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, October 10, 2026, beginning at 11:00 AM, at the Garden Spot Village Chapel, 433 South Kinzer Avenue, New Holland, PA. The family will receive friends on Saturday, beginning at 10:00 AM. An inurnment service will be held at a later date.

In lieu of flowers, the family is requesting memorial contributions be made to the Garden Spot Village Benevolence Fund, 433 South Kinzer Avenue, New Holland, PA 17557.
