Lena S. Burkholder

Lena S. Burkholder, 85, of New Holland, died Monday, January 30, 2017 at her home after a lengthy illness. She was the wife of Harry M. Burkholder.

Born in West Earl Twp., she was the daughter of the late Eli M. and Lizzie (Sauder) Shirk.

Lena was a homemaker and a member of the Martindale Old Order Mennonite Church.

Surviving in addition to her husband are 14 children, Lloyd and Annetta Burkholder of Shippensburg, Ivan and Lizzie Burkholder of Ephrata, Wilma and Samuel Burkholder of Shiloh, OH, Martha and Irvin Zimmerman of Shiloh, OH, Walter and Mary Burkholder of Shippensburg, Mary and Raymond Martin of Spencer, TN, Erma and Leon Shirk of Abbottsford, WI, Lena and Harvey Hoover of Shippensburg, Ella and Larry Zimmerman of Shippensburg, James and Shirlene Burkholder of Newville, Alma Burkholder at home, Edwin and Anita Burkholder of New Holland, Ruth and Harvey Ringler of Greenwich, OH, and Nancy and Landis Weaver of Shiloh, OH; a son-in-law, Enos Hoover of Shippensburg; a daughter-in-law, Nora and Elvin Oberholtzer of Shippensburg; 133 grandchildren; 240 great grandchildren; a sister, Ada Reiff; and 2 sisters-in-law, Fannie Mae Shirk, and Katie Shirk.

Preceding her in death is a daughter, Anna Hoover; a son Henry Burkholder; 4 grandchildren; 3 great grandchildren; and 10 brothers and sisters.

Funeral services will be held on Friday, Feb. 3 at 9 am at the home of Edwin Burkholder, 493 White Oak Road, New Holland with further services at 9:30 am at the Martindale Mennonite Church with Bishop Titus Martin officiating. Interment will be in the adjoining cemetery. Viewing will be held at the Edwin Burkholder residence on Thursday from 2-4 pm and 6-8 pm. Kindly omit flowers.
