Leonard A. “Casey” Stengel, 97, of 333 Wheat Ridge Dr., Ephrata, formerly of New Holland, died Saturday, October 31, 2015 at Fairmount Home. He was preceded in death by his wife, Pearl B. (Druckenmiller) Stengel in 2004.
Born in Bally, he was the son of the late Harvey M. and Elizabeth “Lizzie” (Covey) Stengel.
During World War II, Casey served in the U. S. Army in Africa, Italy, and Normandy.
Casey was an engraver for Weaver Memorials, Inc., New Holland for 45 years.
He was a member of the Charles E. Ludwig Post 7362 VFW, New Holland and was a bowler in the Blue Ball and Ephrata leagues.
He was raised in the Catholic faith.
Surviving is a sister, Margaret Ann “Peggy” Greth, Reading and numerous nieces and nephews.
He was preceded in death by 13 siblings: Verna Long, Clara Schadler, Irene Stengel, Helen Woerner, Miriam Wagner, Pauline Pehlman, Dorothy Peters, Arthur Stengel, John Stengel, Anthony Stengel, Harvey Stengel, Jr., Norbert Stengel and Richard Stengel.

His funeral will be held on Wednesday, November 4 at 10 a.m. at Fairmount Homes Wheat Ridge Chapel, 333 Wheat Ridge Dr., Ephrata with Chaplain Paul Gehman officiating. Interment will be in New Holland Mennonite Cemetery. A viewing will be held at Wheat Ridge Chapel on Wednesday from 9 – 10 a.m. Kindly omit flowers. If desired, memorials may be sent to Charles Ludwig Post 7362, VFW, P. O. Box 423, New Holland, PA 17557. The Groff-High Funeral Home, New Holland is in charge of arrangements.
