Leroy Long

Leroy E Long passed away peacefully on February 15th 2024. He was born in East Greenville, PA. January 13, 1937, the second child of Leon B and Eva A (Krauss) Long. He was loved by all, especially his wife Carolyn, sisters Grace and Edna, sister-in-law Joan, brother-in-law Edward as well as nieces, nephews and extended family.

He was raised in the Upper Perkiomen Valley where he loved sports, hunting & fishing. He was a lifelong member of Palm Schwenkfelder Church and graduated from Upper Perkiomen High School in 1954. He then went on to obtain his degree in Biochemistry from Albright College. After college he enlisted in the army and served his country stateside honorably. Following his Army discharge he started a 34 year career working with blood products and vaccines at Merck Sharp and Dohme in North Wales, PA This is where he met his wife of over 40 years Carolyn (McCleland). They were married on April 6 1968.

Over the years they enjoyed spending time with friends and family as well as their furry and feathery friends both wild and domestic. They enjoyed living in a beautiful wooded area in the Sellersville area before moving to Lily Court in Garden Spot Village. At Garden Spot they enjoyed country living and chauffeuring local residents around the area. They lived happily together until Carolyn’s passing in 2016.

Leroy was an avid Philadelphia Sports Fan watching and attending many games for all the teams over the years and he proudly boasted that he saw each sports team win a title.

“Lee”, as he was known by many, continued to live at Lily Court up until a few months ago when he moved to a lovely little apartment in Mountain View. Lee enjoyed volunteering by helping to bring residents from their rooms to therapy. He always had a smile and kind word for all he met. He could be quiet and unassuming, but had a mischievous sense of humor. Lee also enjoyed watching the birds come to the several feeders that he had on his patio. Occasionally, a squirrel would sneak in.

As a brother, uncle and friend Leroy will be greatly missed, but many many happy memories of him will stay with all who knew him.

As Carolyn always said, “When Jesus calls, you come.” Leroy has now answered his call and they are reunited for eternity.

A celebration of his life will take place at 11AM on March 2nd, 2024 at Garden Spot Chapel with a light luncheon to follow for family and friends. There will be a live stream of the service if you are not able to travel but would like to attend at www.gardenspotvillage.org/live.
