Lester Weaver Martin, also affectionately known as “Les” to many, was welcomed into the loving arms of his Heavenly Father on Tuesday January 14, 2014, following a brief illness. He will be sadly missed by his family and friends.
He was born in Lancaster, July 12, 1940. Son of the late Lester W. Martin and Elizabeth N. Martin. He was the loving husband of Alice Marie (Feister) Martin, with whom he celebrated 51 ½ years of happiness
Many of his passions include spending winters in Florida, renovating his home and playing cards with his many friends and family. Lester also enjoyed the special times with his grandchildren and great grandchildren.
As part of PA Mission Builders he was the project manager for 7 years in Kailua-Kona, HI. WYAM base building new dorms readying young people pursuing their dreams of becoming missionaries. Lester had a passion for the Lord and if you knew him you felt and experienced his warmth, his servant’s heart and his laugh, his perfect remarks always at the perfect time, his “Git R Done” attitude, his patience, his humble spirit, his steadfastness and strength, his unconditional quiet love. This is truly an awesome reflection of his Heavenly Father, with whom he now gets to spend eternity.
Lester is survived by a son Kevin Andrew, married to Julie West Martin of Ephrata; three grandchildren, Shannon Nicole married to Jesse Steffy of Lancaster, Joshua David married to Nicole Mae Bridston of Kailua-Kona, HI, Jessica Michelle married to Jeremy Martin of Ephrata; four Great Grandchildren, Zander Ethan Steffy, Judah Andrew Martin and Hailey Joy and Joshua Wade Martin.
He is also survived by three brothers and one sister, Harlan M & Frances (Martin) Troy, PA, E. Phares & Marie (Garman), Ephrata, PA, Carl & Gladys (Lapp) Port Royal, PA Elizabeth Anne & Samuel Martin, Charlotte, NC
Lester is preceded in death by a son, Sgt Leslie Wade Martin.
A memorial service will be held on Saturday, January 18 at 11 am at the Ephrata Community Church, 60 Clay School Road, Ephrata with the Reverend Kevin Eshelman officiating. Family and friends are invited to the interment at the Terre Hill Cemetery on Saturday at 10 am. Viewing will be held on Friday from 6-8 pm at the Ephrata Community Church. In lieu of flowers contributions may be made to the Pennsylvania Mission Builders, c/o Paul Martin, 407 S. Locust St., Lititz, PA 17543.
