Loretta J. Witman

Loretta J. Witman, 87, of 100 S. Ranck Rd., New Holland, died Thursday, January 29, 2015 at her home. Her husband, John W. “Pin” Witman, preceded her in death in 1987.

Born in Caernarvon Twp., Lancaster County, she was the daughter of the late Asa and Sarah “Sally” (Beam) Kohl.

Loretta was a seamstress, working at Hackman’s Factory and the former SLC Fashions, Blue Ball. During World War II, she worked making pins for grenades.

She was a member of Mt. Airy E. C. Church. She enjoyed reading, her horses and her dogs before she developed macular degeneration.

Surviving are five children: Joyce married to Richard Steffy, Great Falls, MT; Leroy married to Deirdre (Feron) Witman, New Market, NH; John Witman, Jr., at home; Michael Witman, Ephrata; Nora Witman, Manheim; a step-daughter Peggy married to Larry Reed, Vinton, VA; five grandchildren and six great grandchildren.

She was the last of her immediate family, having been predeacesed by eight siblings: Norman Kohl, Elsie Hornberger, Margaret Kohl, Mildred Shenk, Herbert Kohl, James Kohl, Lester Kohl and Charles Kohl.

Her funeral will be held on Friday, February 6, 2015 at 10 a.m. at Beck Funeral Home, 315 E. Main St., New Holland with Pastor Brad Haws officiating. Interment will be in Center Union Cemetery. A viewing will be held on Friday from 9 to 10 a.m. at the funeral home. Kindly omit flowers.
